Astronaut Presentation Programs

trans_25x25.gif (845 bytes)

In conjunction with The IGNITE Foundation, Inc. (IGNITE), your school/education group may be able to host an astronaut for a presentation/visit. IGNITE will work with you to coordinate the visit.

The astronauts’ training schedule is very tight, so groups must remain flexible in their planning. Specific dates and times might not be available, but we will do our best to accommodate you. IGNITE works with multiple groups to coordinate the visits because by combining groups, we are

able to keep the cost down for everyone. NASA does not charge a speaking fee; all expenses are related to the astronaut’s travel only.

IGNITE cannot guarantee an astronaut visit to your group, but we will do everything we can to help make it happen. NASA, of course, has the final say in all activities and events. It is helpful for you to share with us the ways that having an astronaut visit with your group ties into a current program or event that you are trans_25x25.gif (845 bytes)

working on or have just completed. It is also important to consider the number of participants as well as the location for the program.

Typical programs are held for groups of 300 or more people and are usually hosted in facilities that have the ability to display PowerPoint programs (i.e. they can be made dark, and have the equipment needed to display a PPT program.) Most astronauts bring their own laptop computer, but sometimes it is necessary to use one at your location.

Astronauts are not able to take part in fundraising events due to government regulations.  And the event can also be cancelled due to their training schedule. If the event is canceled due to training, IGNITE will refund your money. All funds are required in advance of the program.

The typical cost per group presentation is $400.00-$500.00 for the New England region. The fee covers a portion of the astronaut’s travel expense plus a small administration fee for the foundation. The astronaut will be available to speak and take questions for about 1 1/2 hours.

Please complete the quick inquiry form to request an astronaut visit and be sure to include information about the number of participants you anticipate having, and any specific content areas of interest. Please also include any special needs your group may have.

Please make your request for an astronaut visit at least 10 weeks before you hope to hold the event.

We look forward to hearing from you!
